About CIEE
The world is our classroom. Join us.
CIEE Berlin has its own campus in the heart of Kreuzberg: eight classrooms, a 214+ bed dormitory, student lounges, a lobby with a café and event spaces.
CIEE Berlin offers a variety of programs for different groups. Although we do not offer degree certificates, all of our courses are recognized at our partner universities in the U.S. and are eligible for credit. Therefore, most students come in the context of block seminars in our semester program. Students can take courses in a variety of disciplines (cultural studies, communication studies, political science, business, health sciences, STEM) taught in English language, and of course German language courses as well. In addition, students have the opportunity to do an unpaid internship as part of their stay in Berlin. These students have the option of living with homestay – either for the duration of their program or for a short weekend experience.
For students between in grades 9 through 12, CIEE Berlin also offers intensive summer language courses in German and thematic programs in English, for example on entrepreneurship or an introduction to engineering. For students who want to stay a little longer, we also work with local high schools like the John Lennon Gymnasium, Beethoven-Gymnasium and Askanisches Gymnasium, and host families in our semester or year abroad program.
CIEE also offers many options for students living in Germany who would like to spend time studying or doing an internship in the USA. However, these programs are organized by our teams in the United States. For more information, please visit our website.
Interdisciplinary Course Offerings
The Global Institute Berlin enables students from American colleges and universities to study in Berlin for a semester or even a year. The seminars offered here, which take place in six-week blocks in the spring and fall semesters, are therefore all part of a bachelor's degree program and range from German language and history to international relations, communication sciences, and business to the very interdisciplinary health sciences. Just like the cultural supporting program and regular study trips, the courses are also intended to help students to establish connections to the city of Berlin and to German and European countries and to gain intercultural understanding.
Since almost all seminars are held in English, our lecturers naturally speak excellent English Additionally, able to introduce students to their new and unfamiliar academic environment. As a young institute, we are constantly looking for suitable teachers and welcome inquiries from interested applicants, especially (although not only) in the subject areas mentioned above. The contact person is the head of the academic department, Dr. Martin Kley: mkley@ciee.org
